Eazy-E (born Eric Wright) was a founding member of the legendary gangster rap group from Compton, California, called N.W.A.( Niggaz Wit Attitude). To many he is considered the one of the first initial purveyors of the gangster lifestyle in gangster rap. Although it is said that Wright was a ‘dope’ dealer(cocaine), he began with selling marijuana on the streets of Los Angeles. By his early 20s, he had saved up $250,000 dollars from selling drugs. But after his partner and cousin was shot and killed, he decided to turn to hip hop music, and retire from the life of the streets. During his time with N.W.A he was a controversial public figure, and was considered dangerous by critics, politicians and even Law Enforcement agencies like the FBI.
Eazy-E has been called The Godfather of gangster rap music, and had a successful career with N.W.A and his label, ruthless Records, but also had a solo career in the 90s, after the group disbanded. Many cannabis users both from the inner cities and the suburbs during the 90s, relating to the lyrics and sound Eazy-E was known for. He introduced the world to the cannabis centric hip hop group from Cleavland, Ohio, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. The group’s second release, E.1999 Eternal was a commercial and critical success. Cannabis smokers related to the band’s lyrics, songs, imagery and artwork.
Eazy-E tragically passed away at the age of 30 in Los Angeles, after checking himself into the hospital for a bad cough. His death was caused by HIV/AIDS, he had pneumonia. He had 11 children.
