On Saturday, April 16th, B Real and other members of Cypress Hill were on hand for the opening celebration of the new weed dispensary Dr. Greenthumb’s LAX. The dispensary is the first of the Dr. Greenthumb’s chain to be located in LA’s west side and is the third location in LA for the brand.
The design of the store ties more into B Real’s history with the band, with photo walls, plaques with background information, and a chain-link mural of B Real hung like a curtain in the space.
The opening marks the ongoing expansion of the Dr. Greenthumb brand. It’s the first Dr. Greenthumb’s dispensary opening after the brand expanded to include a new line of flower. The Dr. Greenthumb Show, part of B Real’s production company BReal.tv, commands a large online audience to its daily online stream.
B Real said that the process of opening this new location began about two and half years ago.
The opening event featured plenty of star power for fan meet-and-greets, plus music, food, and vendor booths.
Early in the day Xibit did a beet and great at the event. We spotted Dr. Greenthumb Show co-hosts like DJ C-Minus, Cali Blaise, and Cypress Hill’s Eric Bobo. Cypress’s DJ Muggs also attended. The brand’s premier grower Kenji Fukushima was on hand, as was brand director Travis Howard. The BReal.tv crew was also around, supporting the event.
Displaying the Culture
B Real said that the approach to the dispensary’s design this time around involved using more elements from his background with Cypress Hill and the culture that the Dr. Greenthumb’s brand comes from.
“Having bits and pieces of us throughout the location was important to use a little more than we have, B Real said.
He says he wanted people to have the chance to learn about where the Dr. Greenthumb’s culture comes from.
“Because some of them might not know. They can come in and connect the dots by looking at some of the things we have up,” B Real said.
Along with plaques and design elements, the store features a gallery of photography from the band’s history.
We’ve been blessed to have a few really great photographers,” B Real said, citing works by Block (Cesario Montano), Estevan Oriol, and Eitan Miskovitch, which appear throughout the space.
Land & Blaze
B Real said that the LAX location is perfect not only because it’s the first Dr. Greenthumb’s on the west side, but also due to its proximity to the massive LAX airport.
B Real said that he saw the effort fans made when they arrived in LA to get to a Dr. Greenthumb’s location.
“We had a lot of people flying in from different places to come and experience the Dr. Greenthumb’s dispensary. They’d come into the airport and go directly to the Sylmar or Lincoln Heights location,” B Real said, adding that those locations are tens of miles from the airport.
“Now, if they want it immediately, they can get off the plane and within ten minutes they’re here,” B Real said.
The Dr. Greenthumb’s LAX location is at 5494 W Centinela Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
The Cypress Hill documentary Insane in the Brain airs on 4/20 on Showtime.
