On Saturday, February 26, Dr. Greenthumb’s Sylmar weed dispensary held a grand reopening event. The San Fernando Valley storefront, one of only a few hundred dispensaries in L.A., had been temporarily closed for almost a year.

The reopening came with an updated design and the refreshed space looks flashy and well-stocked.

The reason the doors were shuddered temporarily was, B Real said, due solely to “internal issues.” He said it took some time, but they got things sorted out.

“Once we got it all good to go that’s when we decided to get the doors back open,” B Real said. The dispensary officially reopened a few weeks ago.

When Dr. Greenthumb’s Sylmar first opened in 2018, it was the flagship location for the new Dr. Greenthumb’s brand. Dr. Greenthumb, the alter-ego of Cypress Hill’s B Real, already had a cult following. The spot was instantly known for quality product targeting an underserved community.

It’s a dispensary that people from all over the valley grew accustom to visiting to get a top-line selection of weed, not to mention the famous strains of their house brand Insane.

“At lot of people come here from all parts of the valley,” B Real said. “They know well what we hold in stock,” he said.

The event featured a long line of fans who waited to meet both B Real and cannabis icon Tommy Chong.

Lots of members of the community were also on hand.

Members of BReal.tv made an appearance, including Blaise “Cali Blaise” Lugo and Cypress Hill’s Eric Bobo. Insane cultivation master Kenji Fujishima could be seen, along with brands like Caviar Gold, Palm Tress by PKnuckle, and Heavy Grass.

B Real, Cypress & The Valley

The San Fernando Valley has a connection to B Real, Cypress Hill, and the famous OG Kush strain.

“When we started cultivating back in the early nineties, we did it here in the San Fernando Valley,” B Real said.

“The OG, which is our main representation, pretty was much birthed here,” he said.

When we started cultivating back in the early nineties, we did it here. There’s a lot of history, and the people who represent the San Fernando Valley know that.

“There’s a lot of history and the people who represent the San Fernando Valley know that,” B Real said.

In 2018, when it came time for B Real to open his first licensed dispensary, he made Sylmar home of Dr. Greenthumb’s.

B Real says they easily could have opened first in a bigger city, but made a conscious choice to keep in in the place that he calls their “backyard,” to stay connected to their SFV roots.

“I think people felt that,” B Real said, of the early support the local community showed.

“I think that’s where the appreciation and love and support comes from,” B Real said.

Cheech & Chong Connections

Along with strain drops, prizes, special deals, and fanfare, the event also featured an appearance by Tommy Chong, who was promoting Tommy Chong’s Cannabis.

B Real goes way back with Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin, and all are icons of their respective generations within the California weed community.

“He means so much to the cannabis community in terms of his advocacy and activism, and in the entertainment world, with his comedy his talent and his mentoring,” B Real said.

“Without Cheech and Chong, Cypress Hill ain’t Cypress Hill,” B Real said.

B Real calls Chong a mentor and “a big inspiration.”

“For him to be here with us today is very special,” B Real said.
