On Friday September 2, new indie brand Serge Cannabis debuted their first drop with the strain Blackberry Gary. The strain was a collab between Serge Cannabis founder Serge Damirdjian and Kenny Powers of Powerzzzup, creator of the Gary Payton strain that Cookies carries.
Serge hunted out a Sunset Sherb x Zkittlez BX2 cross and then crossed that with a cut of Gary Paton given to him by Powers. Serge says that the as-yet-unnamed strain that he hunted down was the basis for the new cross. At Friday’s launch, both Blackberry Gary and the Unnamed strain were available.
“One of them was the prequel. Because we really liked that one we asked Kenny [Powers of Powerzzzup] if he wanted to do the collab. We hit it to the Gary Payton, me and my friend Donnie [Different Shades of Green] hunted through those seeds, and found the BlackBerry Gary, and he really loved it,” Serge said.
Serge says that it’s the perfect strain to launch his brand.
“I’m really excited about it, because it encompasses different flavor profiles that I like in cannabis right now. I’ve always been a gas-type of guy. And it has a deep gas aroma with a heavy Berry and Skittles note to it. So, I really like it,” Serge said.
He says that it will be the basis of new strains to come.
“We’ll be doing a lot of breeding projects with her. We already got it with a whole bunch of other stuff that we’re about to hunt through. So, yeah, I’m really excited about this one, all the seasoned lungs that I’ve given it out to try, everybody is giving me amazing feedback. So, I’m excited to get the public’s opinion on it and see what they think,” Serge said.
As for what’s next for the new brand, Serge says that he’s continuing the hunt.

“I’m working on a couple of more flavors that I’m going to drop, some in-house breed stuff like the London Pound Cake crossed with a Pomelo Anderson reversal. And I have another one that I hunted through my friend Donnie [Different Shades of Green]. It’s a Zkittlez crossed with Sherbet CQ. Kind of the same cross from the prequel to the Blackberry Gary cross with a Zkittlez. And I’m calling that one Zyrup,” he said.
Serge Cannabis is different from Serge’s other brand, Fiore, which he is a co-founder of.
“I have partners in Fiore and I like to get everybody’s opinion,” Serge says. “When we do breeding projects, we might pick things that aren’t of my liking and it’s just a bigger company and we have a lot of bigger demographic to cater to.”
With his new brand Serge Cannabis, he’s targeting a more discerning crowd.
“Mine is like a niche, probably a group of people that are tuned in and that I’m catering to, I believe. I’m not trying to go as big on scale as the Fiore brand. I’m trying to keep things small and breed genetics that is not cultivated at that scale,” Serge said.

He’s taking things a little slower with the brand.
“So, maybe it’ll give things a little longer run. Because a lot of time goes into these breeding projects and bringing something new. I feel like if I put something under my Serge Cannabis menu, I want it to be a staple,” he said.
Either way, the strains that come from his new brand, Serge said, will be tried and tested among the best.
“So, whether it’s something that I’ve bred and haunted in-house, or if one of my friends worked on it for years, and it’s been a line that he’s been working on for years, or something really special that I think I would want to share with the community I think that’s more the direction that I’m going with the Serge Cannabis.”
The brand launches with a few strains and some on the way.
“So, far, it’s just going to be the BlackBerry Gary, and pretty much the prequel to that male used and that cross the Sunset Sherbet cross with Skittles BX2, those will be the first two. Then I have the Zyrup, which is Skittles crossed with Sherbet time Skittles, BX2. And then I have the Sex Tape, which is the London Pound Cakes 75 cross with the Pomelo Anderson,” Serge said. “The Zero and the Sex Tape was a small first run that we did with the pheno hunt. So, they’re in the process of getting ramped up as we speak,” he said.
