The Transbay competition founded by icon pot journalist Jimi Devine has done something different this year: they’ve held regional qualifier events all leading up to a grand Transbay V final event in October (which will take place in LA).

On Saturday, August 5th, the qualifying competition took place in LA after similar competitions were held in places like San Fransisco, San Diego, Sacramento, and others.

The LA competition featured an array of local brands with booths and a chill vibe while judges evaluated and smoked entries for about 7 hours. The event started at 4pm and winners were announced at 11pm.

Winners this year featured some unexpected and new brands to the scene.

Flower Winner: AJ’s Flower Co for Z

Flower Winner: Gotti for Seabiscuit

Flower Winner: Maven Genetics for French Laundry

Flower Winner: Your Highness for YHZ

Concentrate Winner: Mills Nutrients for Strawberry Zkittles

Concentrate Winner LA Family Farms for Z-Liscious

Sean from Your Highness tells us “We have been looking through and sourcing Z crosses for a little while now and have really been liking this one. It’s a Z cross with some LCG in there as well. Very Z forward terp with a hint of candy and some gas on the backend. Our team is pretty picky about candy and Z but this cut checks all the boxes for us. We’re super pumped that the judges at Transbay loved it as well. We’re working on dialing the next batches in even more.”

According to Chris from Mills, “Mills is a liquid fertilizer line developed in the Netherlands for growing the highest quality cannabis possible. It is a blend of Mineral and Organic inputs giving versatility to what style or system the growers choose. The high quality inputs and formulations focus on plant health giving larger yields and better quality. This translates into better flavors, increased resin production which translates into better extract. The winning entry was genetics bred by DNA genetics started from seed and selected by myself and Aaron from DNA years ago. The entry was grown and processed by our west coast rep Aaron aka AB and Hashy Melts. The strain is Strawberry Zkittles aka Ztrawberries. It’s a cross of two legendary strains Strawberry Banana and Zkittles. Not a mix all from one strain.”
